Synopsis of chapter 31

Séadna now notices sharp fingernails on the fear dubh. Séadn'as jewl heps him not to be afraid. the devil is amazed at how he is not scared.

Séadna tells him his time is not up yet because he didn't have the purse for a while - accusing him of taking it. The devil doesn't understand, but won't leave until Séadna goes with him. Séadna gets him to sit in the chair - and he's caught!

The time won't expire so long as he's stuck there, says Séadna. Séadna gets him to answer some questions. He was fear na méaracán! If Séadna had bought the horse, or anything except leather with the money, the deal would have been broken, and the devil would have gotten him right away!

Séadna realizes he can (safely) torment the devil, by saying what good he did with his money. The devil tells him he really did evil!

Séadna has a very interesting argument with him about this. The devil says Séadna has a woman enemy that he sent - we don't know who he means.
