Synopsis of chapter 16

The next day there is a big street fair. Everybody is there, including tinkers. But not fear na mearacán.

Sadhbh and the nobleman show up - she's dressed all in red. The "nobleman" is the same person Séadna had refused to lend/give any money to! All eyes are on them.

Diarmaid tells Séadna that the nobleman and his people came to buy horses for the king. He came a few days before. Séadna finds out about Sadhbh being engaged to the "nobleman."

When buying horses, the man ran out of money and borrowed 300 pounds from Sadhbh and Diarmaid.

Séadna tells Micíl to get the bailif. When he comes, Séadna asks him to get his men to gather around Diarmaid's house. Séadna knows the guy is a crook. He advises Diarmaid to leave it to the others, so they don't think he was in on it.
