Bhuail mé le fear ar mhaith leis filíocht a léamh,
Agus nár mhaith leis bheith ina fhile é féin!

Níor mhaith leis focail amscaí 
A mheascadh is a chur le chéile,
Chun a mbrí a dhoiléiriú;

Níor mhaith leis a bheith chomh cliste
Agus a bheith dothuigthe,
Cé go bhfuil sé doléite.

I met a man who liked to read poetry
But he didn't want to be a poet himself!

He didn't want to mix and
put together awkward words,
To muddle up their meaning;

He didn't want to be so clever
As to be unintelligible,
Although he is unreadable.
